Trossachs Breaks self catering holidays in Loch Lomond and the Trossachs  national park in the Scottish  Highlands

TOURISM

The lodge is situated within the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park The area is perhaps best known for its infamous son Rob Roy McGregor, who lived only a few miles away and is buried at the churchyard in Balquhidder, two miles away.

FOOD & DRINK

There are many restaurants and pubs nearby. The nearest, only a couple of minutes walk away is the Golden Larches, a small restaurant famed for its traditional Scottish home-cooking. Only a 20-minute walk away is the Kingshouse Hotel offering bar meals in the small bar with big open fire.

The
Inn at Strathyre does good food and drink and there is always a friendly welcome.

 A bit further afield is the
The Lade Inn, about fifteen minutes away just outside Callender, serves good wholesome food and quality ales, look out for its Scottish Real Ale shop adjacent. They have entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights.

Callender itself has lots of places for food and drink.

WALKING

The Trossachs National Park caters for all tastes and abilities when it comes to walking. Whether you are a serious Munroist or just out for a leisurely stroll your needs can be met.

Ben More, Ben Vorlich and Ben Lawers are just three of over a 100 Munroes and Corbitts nearby. In addition there are numerous forest walks, lochside trails and footpaths on the doorstep.

CYCLING

There are numerous cycle routes in the area catering for all abilities. Cycle route 7 (Carlisle to Inverness) can be accessed from the lodge. Cycle hire is available at several locations in the area.

GOLF

There are a number of courses within a short distance of the chalet. All have their own unique character and challenges. Five are situated within the National Park:

Only a little further away are Comrie; Crieff; Taymouth Castle; Gleneagles and many more. Full details of all courses in the area can be found at Scottish Golf.

WATER ACTIVITIES

With over 20 lochs and associated rivers in the area fishing, canoeing and a variety of watersports are all within easy reach of the lodge

The wide variety of course and game fisheries in the area caters for all abilities. The absolute beginner can take lessons at a number of locations whilst the expert can look for specimen salmon, trout or pike. The area also boasts Scotland’s only lake and premier angling venue, Lake of Menteith. Many of the lochs in the National Park are open to boating and paddling. For details of access go to Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park or the Scottish Canoe Association. Canoes, kayaks and boats can be hired at a variety of locations in the area. Loch Earn, which is only two miles away, caters for all water sports acivities.

FOR THE CHILDREN

 For the kids there are plenty of activities nearby, there is Go-Ape or the Steamship Sir Walter Scott, then there is Doune Castle (where they filmed Monty Python and the Holy Grail) and the Blair Drummond Safari Park all within thirty minutes drive. The McLaren Leisure Centre at Callender has facilities such as swimming pool, fitness suite and indoor climbing wall. Stirling is only thirty minutes away and has all the facilities expected of Scotland’s newest city.

  • The Trossachs National Park is 1,865 sq km (720 sq miles) and has a boundary length of 350km (220miles)
  • There are 20 Munros (mountains above 3,000ft) in the Park and the highest is Ben More at 1,174m
  • There are 20 Corbetts (mountains between 2,500ft and 3,000ft)
  • There are 22 larger lochs, with numerous smaller lochs and lochans
  • Finally about 50 rivers and large burns
